Compensation: $30-$35/hour

Position Summary

The Property Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and reporting for a portfolio of properties. This role supports month-end and year-end close processes, prepares financial statements, performs account reconciliations, and works closely with operations and accounting teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compile, analyze, and reconcile financial information for monthly and annual closing processes.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for an assigned portfolio of properties, including financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Perform bank reconciliations for multiple accounts and investigate outstanding items.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and account tie-outs, researching and resolving variances as needed.
  • Review and reconcile operating expenses, contracts, and other recurring transactions.
  • Prepare and post journal entries while reviewing general ledger activity for accuracy and completeness.
  • Complete assigned pre-close and month-end accounting tasks within established deadlines.
  • Collaborate with property operations personnel and management teams to obtain information necessary for accurate financial reporting.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate recording of transactions.
  • Assist with audits, special projects, and other accounting-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent accounting experience will also be considered.
  • 1-2+ years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with property accounting, real estate accounting, or multi-entity accounting environments is a plus.
  • Knowledge of accrual-based accounting and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with accounting, property management, or ERP software preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
